Abstract: This research is motivated by the low learning motivation and social intelligence of students in Sociology subjects at SMA Plus Budi Utomo Makassar. Sociology is often considered abstract and uninteresting, so students tend to be passive and experience difficulties in communicating and collaborating. To overcome this, a Lesson Study learning approach is implemented that emphasizes collaboration and active student involvement. The study aims to analyze the dynamics of students' learning motivation and social intelligence, describe the implementation of Lesson Study, and examine the influences and factors that influence its success. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, informants consisted of teachers and students in grades XI–XII. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña with triangulation validity tests of sources, techniques, and time. The results of the study indicate that student learning motivation is still predominantly extrinsic. The implementation of Lesson Study in planning, implementation, method variation, and reflection has been proven to increase student participation, communication, empathy, and cooperation. Supporting factors include teacher collaboration, student enthusiasm, and school support, while inhibiting factors include time constraints, differences in student abilities, and limited teacher experience.
